Philippe Schaedler is known as a creative hair stylist as well as an innovative businessman. His passion for hair styling started early, with a three-year apprenticeship in his native Austria while he was still in his teens. Following his successful exam from the Austrian Apprenticeship Board, he decided to fulfill a dream and give Southern California a try. His first six months in Los Angeles
were a blast! Through a friend who is a makeup artist in the entertainment industry, Philippe was able to do hair for TV commercials, which he loved.
Returning to Europe, Philippe managed a salon in Zurich, Switzerland, for four years while pursuing additional professional education. But Southern California called to him and he returned. _For one thing, it's the best place for year-round motorcycling, he says.
Living and working in Santa Monica provided amazing education opportunities at the Toni&Guy Hairdressing Academy and the Vidal Sassoon Hairdressing Academy.
In 1991 Philippe opened his first hair salon, in Marina del Rey. After nine years, he sold it and opened Hair CafÈ in Santa Monica. Schaedler's creativity transformed Hair Cafe into one of the best-known salons on the Westside, a hip gathering place with a European-style cafe and light-therapy room.
Selling Hair Cafe after thirteen years, Philippe is currently enjoying a partnership with Salon Tosca, where he can not only service his clients but also allow more time for continued Toni&Guy education and pursuing his love of photography.
